About the Event
Session 1- Evaluating non-fiction (a):
This class explores the difference in expectations between GCSE and A-Level/IB responses and takes the first step towards bridging the gap. Students will be introduced to one non-fiction text and start to understand how to provide the depth of response that will be required of them in the coming years.
Session 2- Evaluating non-fiction (b):
In the class, students will be introduced to a second non-fiction text and will further develop and strengthen their evaluation skills towards the desired level.
Session 3 - Comparing non-fiction:
In this final class, students will look comparatively at the two texts studied in the previous classes. The class will explore the difference in expectations between comparative evaluation at GCSE level and A Level/IB, and further develop the language and skills needed to excel in English Language at this level.
Session 4 - Demonstrating your skills:
In this class, students will be provided with two new non-fiction texts and must implement the skills developed in previous sessions. Working together, students will compose a comparative evaluation of the new texts. The instructor will provide a predicted grade for the joint response - marked to A Level/IB standards - and provide in depth verbal feedback.
