About the Event
Session 1- Why study French at A-level/IB and its expectations:
Students will learn about the expectations in terms of written and spoken fluency for French A-level and IB. Through a series of interactive discussions and presentations students will also discuss the benefits of learning French at a higher level as well as the influence and contribution francophone culture has throughout the world.
Session 2- French literature and film:
An introduction to possible texts and films often studied at A-level and IB level and a collaborative investigation into their wider cultural relevance. Discussion on how to write a sound literary essay and expectations according to the syllabus. Most importantly about this particular lesson, emphasis is to be placed on showing how fun, rewarding and interesting studying higher level French can be. Discussion on media platforms to use to expand student’s reading and cultural knowledge in French.
Session 3- Oral discussion and debate:
Students will learn about how to conduct a balanced debate drawing on different sources and how to argue effectively in French. Different topics will be discussed and debated in a variety of platforms that allow students to explore their own interests and convey their own opinions whilst learning new, higher-level vocabulary.
Session 4- Essay writing and further study:
Students to learn about how to write solid critical analysis and literary essays on a variety of subjects incorporating new themes. Students will be advised how to write fluent, persuasive essays in timed conditions. The final lesson will also incorporate a summary of vocabulary learnt and student expectations for learning French and the opportunities it can provide them.
