Bridge the gap between GCSE and A-Level/IB with our Theatre Step Up Programme. Dylan (BA.) will take the skills gained in GCSE Theatre and develop these to higher levels. Dylan will give you the solid understanding of Theatre needed in order to succeed in A-Level/IB Theatre.

 Lesson 1: Theater Traditions Part 1:

● Greek Tragedy:

○ What is tragedy?

■ The heroic past, catharsis and the Dionysia

○ The Playwrights: Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides

○ Example Work: Electra by Sophocles

Lesson 2: Theater Traditions Part 2:

● Greek Comedy: Aristophanes

○ Why is Aristophanes significant?

○ How comedy comments on society.

○ Example Work: Frogs by Aristophanes

Lesson 3: The Director’s Notebook 1

● Picking the right play:

○ Who is your audience?

● The History of the Play

○ Where to start researching

○ The role of the Dramaturge

● The Director’s vision.

○ Style, imagery and message.

● Assignment: Write your vision for the play.

Lesson 4: The Director’s Notebook 2

● Lighting, Costumes, and Set Design

● Blocking

● Performance

● Assignment: Students will select a scene and design their own set.
